
Classical Civilisation A-Level
Classical civilisation is the study of the visual/material culture, thoughts, language, literature, drama, politics and history of ancient Greece and Rome.
Often considered the cornerstone of the humanities, A-Level Classical Civilisation puts you in good stead for a range of degrees.
The course is divided into three components. In the first component, students will study English translations of either Homer’s Iliad or Odyssey and Virgil’s Aeneid. The second component looks at Culture and the Arts where students can choose one of the following: Greek Theatre; Imperial Image, Invention of the Barbarian; Greek Art. The final component looks at Beliefs and Ideas, where students look at one of the following: Greek Religion, Love and Relationships, Politics of the Late Republic; Democracy of the Athenians.
