About ORCD UK

ORCD UK is a new, independent UK charity (registration in progress), working alongside ORCD Global, one of Afghanistan's most established local humanitarian organisations. Since 2011, ORCD Global has delivered more than $100 million in humanitarian and development programmes across 34 Afghan provinces, and holds partnerships with seven UN agencies including UNICEF, WFP, and WHO. In 2015, ORCD Global became the first Afghan NGO to receive UN ECOSOC Special Consultative Status.

ORCD UK exists to mobilise UK support, build partnerships, and connect UK donors with this locally led humanitarian work.

We are currently building our board of trustees, our systems, and our volunteer team, this is a genuine founding role.

About the role

The Role

As our Communications Assistant, you'll help bring our written content to life, using the Playbook as your guide. The focus is simple: take existing templates and guidance, and adapt them for specific posts, emails, or updates. You won't be creating a strategy or starting from nothing, just applying what's already there.

What You'll Actually Do

  • Adapt ready-made donor email templates for specific campaigns (using the Playbook).

  • Help draft simple social media captions for our Communications Volunteer or Social Media team.

  • Support with light copy for our monthly update, using the existing format.

  • Occasionally help adapt appeal copy for specific campaigns (e.g. our Winter Appeal), from templates already provided.

  • A short monthly check-in with the ORCD UK Lead (15 to 20 minutes, online).

  • Interest in humanitarian work or international development

What You Get

  • Real, practical experience writing for a charity, a genuine addition to your CV.
