Sociology allows students to explore society and how groups, organisations, institutions interact with individuals and each other.
The Sociology A-Level course allows students to have a more profound understanding of the world around them as well as their own experiences.
Topics that students might look at include; families and relationships, youth subcultures, health, work, poverty, crime and deviance, education, beliefs in society, media and global development and power and stratification. In addition, students will look at research methods including: research design; qualitative and quantitative research; data; sociological methods. Students will also look at the relationship between sociology and social policy.
Format
Independent reading and essay-based subject.
Key Skills Acquired
Understanding of contemporary social processes, analysis and problem-solving, critical thinking, linking theoretical and conceptual issues, form logical arguments, global outlook.
