About the Course

  • What Is a Dietetics Degree?

    Dietetics focuses on the relationship between diet, health, and disease. You’ll learn how to assess nutritional needs, design diet plans, and help people manage medical conditions through food and lifestyle.


    Why Study Dietetics?

    If you enjoy science, health, and working with people, Dietetics offers a rewarding and practical healthcare career. Dietitians use evidence-based knowledge to promote wellbeing, prevent illness, and support recovery for people of all ages.

  • Most Dietetics degrees cover:


    • Human anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry

    • Food science and nutrition

    • Clinical dietetics and medical nutrition therapy

    • Public health and health promotion

    • Psychology and communication

    • Research and evidence-based practice

    • Professional ethics and law


    Later in your degree, you may explore special areas such as paediatric nutrition, sports nutrition, or community dietetics.



    Degree Type

    • BSc (Bachelor of Science) or BSc (Hons) - both lead to registration as a Dietitian with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

  • Nutritional Assessment – evaluating dietary intake, body composition, and nutritional needs.


    Clinical Diet Planning – developing evidence-based nutrition plans for medical conditions.


    Nutritional Biochemistry – understanding how nutrients affect metabolism and health.


    Patient Communication – supporting behaviour change through clear, compassionate advice.


    Public Health Nutrition – promoting healthy eating and managing population-level nutrition programmes.

  • A-levels or equivalent including at least one Science (Biology or Chemistry preferred). Some universities prefer two Sciences. Chemistry is often strongly recommended.


    • Explain your interest in food, health, and helping others.

    • Mention any experience in healthcare, catering, or community settings.

    • Highlight scientific curiosity, empathy, and communication skills.

    • Show understanding of the role of dietitians in promoting health.

    Some universities may invite you to an interview or selection day.
