  • What Is a Paramedic Science Degree?

    Paramedic Science focuses on assessing, treating, and supporting people in emergency and urgent situations. You’ll learn how to manage medical and trauma cases, make rapid clinical decisions, and deliver care both at the scene and on the move.

  • Most Paramedic Science degrees cover:

    • Law, ethics, and professional practice


    Later in your degree, you may explore areas such as advanced trauma care, leadership, critical care, or public health and prevention.



    Degree Type

    • BSc (Bachelor of Science) or BSc (Hons) - both lead to eligibility for registration as a Paramedic with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

  • Emergency Assessment – rapidly evaluating patient condition in urgent or life-threatening situations.


    Life-Support Intervention – delivering advanced first aid, CPR, airway management, and trauma care.


    Clinical Decision-Making – making fast, evidence-based judgments under pressure.


    Pre-hospital Care – stabilising patients and preparing them for safe transport.


    Communication Under Stress – coordinating with patients, families, and emergency teams in high-pressure environments.

  • A-levels or equivalent including at least one Science (Biology, Chemistry, or Psychology preferred). Some universities require two Sciences.


    • Explain your motivation to work in emergency care.

    • Mention any volunteering or work experience in health or community services.

    • Highlight teamwork, empathy, and calmness under pressure.

    • Show understanding of the responsibilities of a paramedic.

    Universities often hold interviews or assessment days with scenario-based questions and teamwork exercises.
