About the Course

  • What Is a Pharmacy Degree?

    Pharmacy is the science and practice of preparing, dispensing, and understanding medicines. You’ll study how drugs are developed, how they work in the body, and how pharmacists support patients in managing their health safely and effectively.


    Why Study Pharmacy?

    If you’re interested in science, healthcare, and helping people, Pharmacy offers a rewarding and respected career. Pharmacists play a vital role in ensuring patients receive the right treatment, giving advice on medicines, and improving health in hospitals, GP surgeries, and communities.

  • Most MPharm degrees cover:


    • Human anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry

    • Pharmaceutical chemistry and formulation

    • Pharmacology and therapeutics

    • Research and evidence-based medicine


    Later in your degree, you may focus on areas such as advanced clinical pharmacy, pharmaceutical technology, or global health.


    Degree Type

    • MPharm (Master of Pharmacy) - a four-year degree that combines undergraduate and master’s study.

    • After graduation, you complete one year of Foundation Training before applying for professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

  • Clinical Pharmacology – understanding how medicines work and interact in the body.


    Dispensing & Medicines Management – ensuring safe, accurate preparation and supply of medications.


    Patient Consultation Skills – advising patients on treatment, dosage, and medication safety.


    Clinical Problem-Solving – identifying and managing medication-related issues and contraindications.


    Pharmaceutical Science Knowledge – applying chemistry, biology, and pharmaceutics to drug design and therapy.

  • A-levels or equivalent including Chemistry and Biology (or Chemistry plus one other Science - Biology, Maths, or Physics).


    • Explain your interest in science, health, and helping people.

    • Mention any work experience in pharmacies or healthcare.

    • Highlight attention to detail, communication skills, and empathy.

    • Show understanding of a pharmacist’s role in patient care and medicine safety.

    Universities may invite you to an interview or assessment day, including scenario-based questions or problem-solving tasks.
